About the video
Though considered a Bill Monroe tune, this is actually written by a harmonica
player named DeFord Bailey, according to Mike Compton. DeFord used to play
with Monroe back in the early tent-show days of the Grand Ole Opry. "Evening
Prayer Blues" is meant to mimic the tones of a small ensemble of singers in a
brush-arbor revival meeting. Compton says he starts like DeFord's harmonica
and ends the way Monroe did it on a mandolin.
This performance is during a Nashville Bluegrass Band set at the 3rd annual
Pickin' In the Pines Bluegrass Festival in September 2008 in Flagstaff, AZ.
